We love it when animals’ enjoyment is written all over their faces, so we were bound to love Gus, a 2-year-old bulldog who had just such a reaction when he received the gift of a brand-new, child-sized wading pool.

Although we particularly love his enthusiastic response to his new pool, we’re big fans of the Gus ouvre in general. Owner evmoss has documented in video form a number of the major moments in the lives of Gus and his ‘sister,’ another bulldog named Lucy. Evmoss’ YouTube channel features a number of memorable Gus and Lucy moments, from their first meeting to a romp in the snow to the first time Gus tasted watermelon. (Hint: He liked it, maybe even more than he liked his new pool.)

Although Gus and other dogs we’ve seen seem to enjoy watermelon as much as they enjoy bacon (OK, maybe not quite that much), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals offers a word of warning about allowing dogs to eat the tasty fruit: Although ‘there is currently no data demonstrating that the edible portion, seeds and rind have potential to produce effects beyond minor gastrointestinal irritation to pets,’ the group suggests that ‘if you are considering offering any food outside of your dog’s normal diet, we recommend that you talk with your pet’s regular veterinarian first.’ Got that, Gus? Enjoy the watermelon (but it’s probably best to avoid the seeds and rind).
