Your morning adorable: Giraffe calf at Denmark’s Aalborg Zoo

A giraffe was born last month at the Aalborg Zoo in Denmark. Giraffes’ gestation period is well over a year (normally between 400 and 460 days), and newborns stand about 6 feet tall!

Contrary to popular belief, giraffes have the same number of neck vertebrae as humans do (seven), but each vertebra can measure 10 inches long or more. When this calf reaches maturity, its neck alone is likely to weigh about 600 pounds.

There are nine recognized subspecies of giraffe (all those who live at the Aalborg Zoo belong to the Rothschild giraffe subspecies).
