Orange County animal lovers, get ready for Spring Pet Days this weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5, the Animal Assistance League of Orange County will host its first Spring Pet Days event. The festivities all take place at the Orange County Fair and Event Center during the Orange County Market Place weekend swap meet from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost of admission to the swap meet (required to enter the pet event) is $2 for adults; kids 12 and under enter free.

Guest speakers will be on hand to present tips and information on pet health, spaying and neutering, training tips, animal welfare and other subjects. Local pet rescue groups will be on hand with adoptable pets.

Spring Pet Days promises to be family-friendly, with several presentations geared toward kids. Doggie performance group the Soccer Collies (right) will show off its athletic skills on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. John Reed of the Santa Ana Police Department’s animal services division will perform a pet-themed puppet show on the topics of responsible dog and cat ownership and dog bite prevention.

Participating pet rescue groups include the Animal Assistance League of Orange County, German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, Southern California Dachshund Rescue, Southern California Bulldog Rescue, Greyhound Pets of America, Roverlution and Little Bow Wow Rescue.
