The Donkey Sanctuary, a Devon, England, charity whose six farms are dedicated to caring for unwanted and neglected donkeys, has taken in more than 10,000 of the braying creatures.

The sanctuary has a no-breeding policy, but occasionally takes in a pregnant jenny (the proper term for a female donkey). One such case involved a 12-year-old jenny named Rosie, who gave birth at the sanctuary in October of last year. Her foal, named Francesca by sanctuary staff, is pictured here having a great time rolling in the grass.

Francesca was named for St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. More photos of Francesca and her mother after the jump!
