The Beijing Zoo has been the temporary home for eight giant pandas whose habitat in the Wolong Panda Reserve was damaged in last year’s earthquake in China’s Sichuan province. (The New York Times wrote movingly about the efforts to rescue the pandas.)

The pandas have been at the zoo for nearly a year and are a favorite with visitors. They’re due to be returned to the reserve this weekend after a farewell ceremony.
