Unlikely pair: a man and his hippo

In Garoua, Cameroon, Liman Boucar Souaibou asks Africa the hippopotamus to get out of the water. For 16 years, Liman has worked to coax Africa, who weighs about 4 tons, into being friendly with children and tourists.

But Africa is a rare hippo, and L.A. Unleashed does not recommend this kind of contact. As the San Diego Zoo’s website notes, ‘Despite the hippos’ cute appearance, they are among the most dangerous and aggressive of all mammals.’
