Today, friends, we’d like to introduce you to a special resident of the West L.A. shelter. Meet Samson (ID# A0922842), a neutered male Labrador Retriever mix who’s about 6 years old. Samson’s pal Mirja Bishop, a shelter volunteer, gave us the back story:

Samson’s owner turned him in to the shelter in April; he’s been waiting patiently since then for a new owner. So far he’s made many friends -- he’s a favorite of shelter volunteers -- but he still hasn’t found a home. Mirja says he’s ‘a big boy, but you’ll never find a sweeter dog.’

Folks at the shelter call him a ‘ladies’ man.’ He’s very mellow, walks well on a leash and is described as very ‘easy to get along with.’ In fact, he isn’t particularly interested in other dogs at all -- he just cares about people. (Mirja tells us he sits at the front of his enclosure all day and gazes at the people who pass by, seemingly pleading with his eyes for them to take him home.)

Shelter life must be hard for a dog who’s been left by his owner and doesn’t understand why; Samson’s didn’t give a reason for surrendering him there. He’s been very patient, waiting five months for a new home. Of course, we all know the realities facing pets in shelters: They can’t stay there forever, and most don’t last as long as Samson has.

Because Samson is already neutered, he’s ready to go home immediately with a new family. Meet Samson at the West L.A. shelter, at 11361 West Pico Blvd. (near the intersection of Pico and Sawtelle). You can get more information on Samson by calling (888) 452-7381.
