Folks, if you’re in the market for a new friend, be it a dog or cat or even a rabbit or a duck or a rooster, look no further today than L.A.’s North Central shelter. (Seriously, a rooster. Who knew?)

For starters, meet little Jorge (ID No. A0974119), above, an 8-year-old miniature poodle who is already neutered (meaning he’s ready to come home with you posthaste).

Baby (ID No. A0971068), above, is an unspayed female who’s about five months old and looks like she could do a nice job with a spool of yarn or a catnip item of some kind. (She just has that look in her eye.)

Pal (ID No. A0957942), above left, is an unneutered male short-haired rabbit who’s 2 years old. And perhaps you thought we were kidding about the rooster? Perplexingly, he’s listed as an ‘unaltered male, brown and white chicken.’ He’s nameless for now, but can be your very own Foghorn -- he’s ID No. A0961424.

More pets (and maybe even another unusual shelter-dweller) after the jump.

OMG tiny baby kitten! ‘Nuff said?

Well, perhaps not. This little creature (ID No. A0981178) is a female domestic shorthair who’s only a few weeks old.

If she’s gone by the time you make it up to North Central (who could resist?), don’t fret -- she appears to have some brothers and sisters there as well (ID Nos. A0981174, A0981175, and A0981177, if you’re wondering.)

And now for some fine canine specimens...

Bambino (ID No. A0973659), above, is an unneutered male terrier mix who’s about a year old, and we’re willing to bet there are eyes under there somewhere.

Above left, meet Tiger (ID No. A0754225). He’s a neutered male smooth-coated Chihuahua. And above right, Chata (ID No. A0844917) is a spayed female American Staffordshire Terrier mix who’s about 4 years old and (as you can see) has a smile as big as Texas. (Why, just think, you could submit her photo to Your Scene’s ‘Smile!’ gallery.)

Finally, who doesn’t love a misproportioned-yet-lovable guy like this nameless fellow (ID No. A0972841)? He’s an unneutered male and is listed as a corgi-American Staffordshire terrier mix. If you’re in doubt you could always test his DNA.

These and many more friends are all up for adoption at the North Central Animal Care Center at 3201 Lacy Street in L.A., and you can inquire about any of them by calling 888-4LAPET1 with the ID numbers listed here.

P.S.

Did we mention the North Central shelter also contains an adoptable duck? And further, did we mention that her name is Marie? Color us fascinated. (Marie’s ID No. is A0975186.)
