Rescued from abuse, now ready for homes

Once they roamed a San Diego house filled with the stench of urine and feces. Food was scarce and care nonexistent.

But now 31 rabbits seized months ago during a raid by the San Diego County Department of Animal Services have been cleaned up, fattened up, spayed or neutered, and declared by veterinarians to be good candidates for adoption.

So an adoption fair is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the House Rabbit Society Adoption Center, 4805 Mercury St., Suite C, San Diego. Cost is $25 for one, $35 for two.

They’re considered good pets for residents of apartments or condos. ‘They virtually make no noise,’ said Dawn Danielson, animal services director.
