Google -- Don't Be Annoying

  Los Angeles in 7 Days

Last summer, I posted an item about “Los Angeles in 7 Days,” a guidebook written for the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. I was happy to discover that the book had been scanned by Google and placed online.

But when I recently checked on the post, I found that Google’s embedded coding had been switched from full view to snippet view. I have e-mailed an inquiry to Google (have you ever tried finding an e-mail address for an actual human being at Google? We’re told they have 19,835 employees but have you ever tried to contact one of them as an outsider?) Stay tuned for an official response.

In the meantime, the book is available elsewhere online.

You may page through it here at the Hathi Trust Digital Library, although it cannot be downloaded.

Or you can download Google’s digitized scan from Calaméo, a free service that requires registration and offers more features for a price.

Or… you can buy a copy for the ridiculous price of $1,003.98 via Amazon.
