Can liberal Hollywood laugh at the right’s Obama movie parodies?

It’s bad enough that everyone, from the far left to the far right, has a beef with Barack Obama’s new Afghanistan war policy. But you really know the worm has turned when some of the best Obama spoofs are now coming from the conservative camp, not just ‘SNL’ or ‘The Daily Show.’
Awl.com, an oddball pop culture site, has put up a wide-ranging collection of Obama-themed movie poster parodies that offer some clever jabs at the president along with many of his Hollywood supporters.
I’m sure many liberals will be appalled by some of the barbed humor, since they’re not always used to seeing Obama take it on the chin. But even though I’m a pretty reliable lefty, I found most of the posters to be clever, funny and a great use of movie-poster iconography, not to mention photo shop technology.
You can go here to see the poster spoofs for yourself, but here are a few of my favorites:
1) ‘The Last Whitehouse on the Left,’ which portrays the Obama residence as a malevolent-looking horror film mansion. The poster’s tagline perfectly captures the horror genre’s underlying edge of paranoia: ‘If Liberal People Were Ruining Your Country, How Far Would You Go To Get It Back?’
2) ‘The 46-Year-Old Political Virgin,’ which casts Obama as a polo shirt-clad naif, with the tagline: ‘He’s Come Too Soon.’
3) ‘The Sting,’ with Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in ‘30s garb, leaning on one another’s shoulders, as if conspiratorially dreaming up a new heist, with the tagline: ‘They put the Con in Congress.’
4) ‘Liar Liar,’ featuring Obama in the original Jim Carrey pose, with a credit box that gets in a few zingers at various Hollywood liberal targets, including John Cusack, Ben Affleck, Rosie O’Donnell and George Clooney.
All in all, it’s a rare outpouring of smart conservative humor, which I suspect once again proves that the right would get a lot more traction if they concentrated more on clever satire and less on nutty name calling.
