Al Gore, former vice president and environmental champion, has dropped a big hint to Apple fans -- he believes ‘new iPhones’ will be coming in October, a report says.

iPhone rumors have been bouncing around for months, but Gore has an inside track: the Nobel Peace Prize winner is also on the board of Apple. And apparently, he’s not shy about dropping hints.

According to the Associated Press, Gore was expounding on the exponential growth of computing at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit in South Africa on Wednesday, when he said: ‘Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug.’

Gore’s comments were reportedly recorded on an iPhone by summit attendee Toby Shapshak, who later repeated the statement to the AP.

The tease, which could indicate that Apple will release more than one fresh model, matches an earlier report today that the new iPhone 5 will be unveiled Oct. 4.
