T-Mobile’s first 4G BlackBerry, the $299.99 Bold 9900

T-Mobile isn’t missing out on the rush of new BlackBerrys hitting major wireless carriers this month -- it has nabbed the new Bold 9900.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be T-Mobile’s first 4G phone made by Research in Motion. And, so far, T-Mobile is the only carrier that will sell a 4G version of the new Bold. Sprint and Verizon are selling the Bold 9930, which is the exact same phone as the 9900 but this version runs only on 3G networks.
But with added speed will come added cost. The 3G Bold 9930 from Sprint and Verizon will sell for $249.99 with a 2-year data plan from either carrier when it goes on sale later this month.
T-Mobile’s 4G Bold 9900 is selling for $299.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a 2-year data plan, making this handset the most expensive of any of the new BlackBerry phones.
The Bold 9900 went on sale Wednesday to T-Mobile business accounts and will be available to everyone else Aug. 31.
The new Bold will run on the BlackBerry OS 7, which is the latest and greatest BlackBerry phone operating system until RIM releases phones running QNX (the mobile OS on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet) early next year.
The Bold 9900, like the 9930, is powered by a 1.2-gigahertz single-core processor and features 8-gigabytes of memory and a 2.8-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 640×480 pixels that sits atop a full physical keyboard in classic BlackBerry style. On the back of the phone is a 5-megapixel camera that can shoot 720p video. The new Bold will also be RIM’s thinnest phone thus far at just 0.41 of an inch thick.
