Apple recalls ‘extremely small number’ of iPad 2s

Apple is recalling an ‘extremely small number’ of second-generation iPads due to a problem connecting to the Verizon Wireless network, reports say.

The recall involves certain iPad 2s that were manufactured with duplicate identifying numbers, known as the mobile equipment identifier, which prevent the tablet computers from connecting while running on the Verizon network, an Apple spokeswoman told the blog AllThingsD.

Apple said that only iPad 2s on the Verizon network were affected, but declined to disclose how many tablets are being recalled, AllThingsD reported. IPad 2s with that manufacturing flaw will be replaced with new ones.

Apple reported Monday that 25 million iPads had been sold in the last 14 months.
