The white iPhone 4 may finally be hitting store shelves.

After a 10-month delay, Apple will begin selling a light-colored model of the popular smartphone in the next few weeks, according to a Bloomberg story that cited three people familiar with the situation.

Apple originally said it would release the white phones last spring. But after a string of delays, some customers began regarding the phone as the stuff of legend, like the unicorn or Loch Ness monster.

Last June, Apple delayed the release of the white version because of an unspecified manufacturing problem. Issues included paint that peeled under heat and problems with a sensor in the device, according to Bloomberg.

AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless will both carry the white model by the end of April, Bloomberg said, and the added option may bump up demand for the iPhone 4 before Apple releases the next generation of the popular device. The iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 are both available in white.

According to Bloomberg, the tech giant is not planning to unveil a new iPhone at the June developers’ conference and may choose to show it off in September instead.
