Google Latitude app released for iPhone

Google’s Latitude location-sharing app was released for Apple’s iPhone Monday.
The Latitude app allows users to share their location by way of their iPhone with friends also using the app, then contact them in the app by phone, text message or e-mail.
Latitude works much like a social network -- users can download the app for free, and contacts have to accept a ‘friend request’ before sharing information with each other.
The app will either only share a user’s location when its actively being used, or it can be set to constantly share location information in the background of the iPhone’s regular use.
Over the last year, Latitude has been released for Google’s Android operating system, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry phones, Nokia’s Symbian OS and Windows Phones.
More than 9 million people currently use the Latitude app, Google said in a blog post.
Latitude is only available for devices running Apple’s iOS 4.0 or later (such as the third and fourth generation iPod Touch), but only the 3G-equipped devices such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 3G iPad support background sharing.
The app is also available in 15 different languages and 45 countries.
