A new Twitter tool called Blackbird Pie will now allow website owners to embed a tweet into their blog posts or articles. When viewed on the user’s site, readers can view the tweeter’s profile picture, click on links within the tweet, and even view hashtags.

Blackbird Pie was developed by Twitter employee Robin Sloan and is available on the company’s media site.

In order to embed tweets into their sites, users need to input a tweet’s link into Blackbird Pie. From there, the service spits out a line of code that can be embedded into a site.

For its part, Twitter said that Blackbird Pie shouldn’t be called a new feature, since it’s still a prototype and has some usability issues.

I experienced a few of those problems earlier today. After attempting to create an embeddable tweet, the service didn’t recognize the URL. After finally recognizing the URL, it didn’t create the embeddable tweet. I came back a few hours later to try again and this time, it worked fine.

So for now, Blackbird Pie is a work in progress. But it has some promise and could come in handy for website owners.
