Checking in on Facebook’s location feature. Where is it?

People attending Facebook’s annual developer conference in San Francisco Wednesday were handed an RFID chip they could swipe in different areas to share their location with friends.

But missing in all the action was Facebook’s long-awaited announcement about a feature that would allow users to share their physical whereabouts. Twitter’s @anywhere feature is generating plenty of buzz. And Foursquare and other start-ups are heating up the mobile social networking space.

So where’s Facebook?

During a news conference after his keynote speech, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg deflected questions about the timing of the product.
