Browse Apple's App Store in Facebook

March 29, 2010 |  2:40 pm

iPhone owners hoping to make the process of browsing applications more social will be happy to know that an Apple App Store app has launched on Facebook.Facebook App Store

The app, which was developed by social-media company Vitrue with some help from Apple's iTunes team, allows users to browse the App Store's entire 170,000-plus application directory from within Facebook. Users can search for specific apps, find out which programs are especially popular at any given time, and check out some of the "top apps," as decided by the app's maker.

When users find an app that they might want to download from iTunes, they can click the "Get app" button within the Facebook application. Upon doing so, they're asked to open iTunes so they can see the app's individual listing page and complete the download process.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the App Store Facebook app is the "share" button. It allows users to tell their Facebook friends which apps they like and promote respective programs on their profiles.

Since games have become an extremely important component in the App Store, Vitrue has broken out the store's entire game collection into a separate tab within the app to make gaming titles more accessible to users.

In the coming weeks, Vitrue plans to update the app with more features.
