Apple excitedly announced Wednesday that it had sold its 10 billionth song on iTunes. Maybe a little too excitedly, because the notorious perfectionists at the company spewed a typo onto its home page.

Stories about Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs’ standards for visual perfection are almost mythic. Apple engineers whisper about being dressed down by the company founder over the minute details of a few pixels on the screen. An iPhone app was rejected from the App Store for a single button that resembled an iPhone.

We’re guessing the new promo flew under Jobs’ radar. It appears on Apple.com as of the publishing of this post, and a screen shot is at right. Thanks to Techmeme‘s Rich DeMuro, who pointed this out on Twitter.

Apple’s boo-boo: ’10 billions songs downloaded from iTunes.’ However, on the page it links to, the Apple grammarians were apparently paying closer attention.

[Updated, 4:26 p.m.: That was quick. Apple has fixed the typo.]
