USC exploded offensively in the first half Monday night against Texas Christian and leads the Horned Frogs at halftime at the Galen Center, 42-33.

Compared to USC’s previous three games, in which it scored 59, 41 and 40 points, this type of scoring is an aberration, but the Trojans can thank guard Maurice Jones.

Jones scored 18 first-half points, hitting six of 10 shots, including three of five from beyond the three-point arc.

USC shot 50%, making 14 of 28 shots. The Trojans made five three-point shots, but if there was a downside that could come back to hurt them, it was that it missed seven free throws.

TCU is led by Hank Thorns with eight points. The Horned Frogs had 10 turnovers while USC had just one.

And in the points-off-turnovers category, USC had a 11-2 advantage.

We’ll keep you posted on how this one unfolds, but because it’s USC this season, you can figure it’s going to come down to the final minute.
