Jeremy Stenberg, from Winchester in Riverside County, beat out Todd Potter to win the gold medal in the Moto X best whip final Thursday at Staples Center.

Those two were among six riders in the final-only format trying to throw their 350-pound dirt bikes sideways in as acrobatic a manner as possible during a 10-minute jam format. It’s called ‘whipping’ for riders’ ability to whip the rear wheel of the bike around.

The winner was selected by fans, who voted via text message. Stenberg, known as ‘Twitch,’ earned 27% of the vote to Potter’s 24%. Jarryd McNeil was third with 22%.

Potter was the three-time defending gold medalist in the event.
