Real Madrid announces roster for Galaxy match

Usually when the Galaxy plays, the majority of superstars in the game wear the Los Angeles colors. That will be far from the case on July 16 when the Galaxy faces Real Madrid at the Coliseum.

Real Madrid announced its travel roster for the trip stateside Friday, and the list of superstars includes two FIFA world players of the year and five defending World Cup champions. Led by reigning FIFA coach of the year Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid arrives in Los Angeles on Monday.

Forward Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal headlines Mourinho’s roster. Ronaldo was the world player of the year in 2008 and joined Madrid in 2009. He scored the sole goal in Madrid’s Copa del Rey championship victory over Barcelona in April.

Brazilian great Kaka will join Ronaldo. The 2007 world player of the year missed last year’s match against the Galaxy with a knee injury but is expected to start this time.

Of the Spainards who won the World Cup in 2010, goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defenders Sergio Ramos, Raul Albiol, Alvaro Arbeola and midfielder Xabi Alonso will travel with Madrid.

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas, Antonio Adán, Jesus Fernandez Collado, Tomas Mejias

Defenders: Raul Albiol, Alvaro Arbeola, Ricardo Carvalho, Jorge Casado, Fabio Coentrào, Jose Nacho Fernández, Marcelo, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane

Midfielder: Xabi Alonso, Jose Maria Callejon, Esteban Granero, Kaka, Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil, Nuri Sahin

Forward: Karim Benzema, Jose Luis Mato San Martin, Jese Rodriguez, Cristiano Ronaldo
