Hello Colorado. Welcome to your first media event with the likes of USC and Oregon.

“We’re very excited to be part of the Pac-12,” Colorado Coach Jon Embree said.

Embree hopes the new conference affiliation will reap benefits for Colorado in ways the Big 12 wouldn’t.

“From a recruiting standpoint, it helps us a lot to be able to come back [to Los Angeles] every year,” he said. “We have to get to where we are recruiting this state effectively.”

Facing a whole new slate of conference foes, Embree knows a challenge awaits him whenever he prepares for a previously unseen opponent, but thanks to his son Taylor, Embree is somewhat familiar with Pac-12 defenses. Taylor is a senior receiver at UCLA.

“I do have some familiarity with this conference,” the elder Embree said. “I’ve watched a lot of different games, always with UCLA involved.

“There is so much diversity in this league, offensively and defensively … You always have to prepare. You can’t go in with a cookie-cutter mentality.”
