Top seeds get started Wednesday, Thursday at Farmers Classic

Mardy Fish, the top-ranked American in the world and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Farmers Classic tennis tournament, which begins Monday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA, will play his first match Thursday, and Juan Martin del Potro, the 2009 U.S. Open champion and 2008 Farmers Classic winner, will play his first match Wednesday.

Fish, who is in the finals of an event in Atlanta Sunday against fellow American John Isner, will play the winner of a first-round match between Gilles Muller and USC senior Steve Johnson, the NCAA champion who received a wild card spot in the main draw. Del Potro of Argentina will play the winner of a first-rounder between Michael Berrer of Germany and American James Blake.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s schedules are called ‘Super Sessions,’ with play beginning at noon and one ticket being good for all day.

Thursday through Sunday, there will be a day and an evening session.
