Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is suing Werder Bremen goalie Tim Wiese for comments suggesting that Lehmann belongs on the ‘Muppet Show.’

Wiese also implied that Lehmann has some sort of mental or psychiatric condition, saying he should be treated ‘on a couch.’ My guess is it’s the latter comment that has Lehmann so upset.

After all, Wiese wasn’t necessarily calling him a nerd like Scooter or a diva like Miss Piggy or a stick-in-the-mud like Sam the Eagle. Maybe he was calling Lehmann an awesome drummer like Animal. Or a great cook like the Swedish Chef. Or a guy with a really cool voice like Beaker.

Seriously, who wouldn’t want to be associated with such classic entertainment as the ‘Muppet Show?’

The controversy started when Lehman was working as a TV commentator in September. He criticized Wiese’s performance in a Champions League game against Tottenham, then Wiese made his comments to a newspaper the following day.

Lehman filed a lawsuit, demanding more than $28,000 for having his ‘personal rights violated.’ His case will be heard in Munich this week.

Maybe Lehmann is mad just because the ‘Muppet Show’ theme has been stuck in his head for the last seven months. Check it out -- just don’t sue me when the same thing happens to you.
