Angels recall infielder Alexi Amarista from triple A, send outfielder Reggie Willits to Salt Lake

The Angels, looking to bolster an offense that hasn’t scored since Friday night and to provide coverage for injured utility infielder Maicer Izturis, recalled middle infielder Alexi Amarista from triple-A Salt Lake on Monday and optioned seldom-used outfielder Reggie Willits to Salt Lake.

Amarista hit .455 (25 for 55) with two home runs, six doubles, 16 runs batted in and 10 runs in 16 games for Salt Lake. Willits had only seven at-bats, with no hits, in six games since being activated off the disabled list in mid-April.

Izturis, who can play second base, shortstop and third base, was scratched from Sunday’s game because of tightness in his left hamstring, and he is expected to sit out at least a few more games.
