Freshman guard Matt Carlino, who announced two weeks ago that he was leaving UCLA, has decided to transfer to Brigham Young, according to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune.

Carlino will become committed to the Cougars once he participates in his first practice, the report stated. BYU lost to UCLA, 86-79, on Saturday in the Wooden Classic.

Carlino graduated a year early from high school to enroll at UCLA but never played for the Bruins except in one exhibition game. He suffered a concussion in practice Nov. 9 and was not medically cleared until after UCLA’s third game.

But Coach Ben Howland never inserted Carlino in any of the subsequent four games before Carlino announced he was leaving. He is expected to become eligible at the end of the fall semester next year.
