Denver Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox was arrested Thursday night on charges of sexual assault.

The Lone Tree, Colo., Police Department released a statement that said it was notified on Oct. 28 that a sexual assault had occurred, and after a lengthy investigation, charges were filed and a warrant for Cox’s arrest was issued.

Cox, 23, appeared in Douglas County Court on Friday wearing a gray prison uniform. His feet were shackled and he was escorted by an armed sheriff’s deputy. At mid-morning, he remained in custody on $50,000 bond.

Judge Susanna Meissner-Cutler granted the rookie starter a request that he could accompany the Broncos to out-of-state games while free on bond.

Cox’s next court hearing was set for Jan. 7.
