Las Vegas police arrested unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. late Thursday at a Strip casino on a misdemeanor battery warrant.

Mayweather was released Friday morning on his own recognizance after smiling through a booking shot.

The arrest occurred, ironically, as Manny Pacquiao was celebrating his 32nd birthday with a party in the Philippines, moving toward the selection of a May 7 opponent in Las Vegas based on Mayweather’s unavailability.

Mayweather is facing a Jan. 24 court date in Clark County, Nev., for allegedly striking the mother of his three children, and threatening the children.

His Thursday arrest was for an unrelated incident in November in which he allegedly made contact with a neighborhood security guard discussing a possible traffic violation by the boxer.
