Ducks acquire center Maxim Lapierre from Montreal

The Ducks on Friday acquired feisty Maxim Lapierre from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Brett Festerling and a fifth-round draft pick in 2012. However, Lapierre is not expected to be in their lineup when the Ducks face the Philadelphia Flyers Friday at the Honda Center because he was in Florida with the Canadiens when the trade was completed.

Lapierre, 25, is a right-handed shooting center. He reportedly had requested a trade after seeing his playing time in Montreal dwindle recently. He had five goals, eight points and a team-high 63 penalty minutes in 38 games this season in addition to a minus seven defensive rating. He was averaging 11 minutes 41 seconds of ice time per game.

For his career, the 6-foot-2, 207-pound Lapierre has 35 goals and 72 points plus 221 penalty minutes. His contract calls for him to be paid $900,000 this season. He can become a restricted free agent after the season.

Festerling, 24, played 42 games with the Ducks last season but only one game this season. He has been playing for their American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse, where he had three goals and 12 points in 42 games.
