U.S. Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez changed her lineup for Sunday’s singles, announcing that Melanie Oudin would replace Bethanie Mattek-Sands and play the first singles match against Italy’s Francesca Schiavone. CoCo Vandeweghe is scheduled to play the second singles match against Flavia Pennetta.

The U.S. trails Italy 2-0 in the best-of-five format. If Oudin loses to the defending French Open champion and seventh-ranked player in the world, Italy will have defended its title.

Last year, Italy beat the U.S. 4-0 in the finals. On Saturday, Vandeweghe and Mattek-Sands were straight-set losers to Schiavone and Pennetta.

If the two Americans win singles, the deciding match would be doubles and would likely have Mattek-Sands and Liezel Huber against Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
