Vladimir Guerrero, who helped propel the Texas Rangers into their first World Series after the Angels let him go in free agency, was selected as the designated hitter on the annual Silver Slugger team announced Thursday.

The Silver Slugger is awarded to the top offensive player at each position, as selected by managers and coaches in each league. Guerrero won his eighth Silver Slugger, after winning three with the Montreal Expos (1999, 2000, 2002) and four with the Angels (2004-07).
