Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms has been arrested in New York City on charges of driving while on drugs, according to police.

Police say Simms, 29, appeared to have been smoking marijuana after they stopped him in Manhattan at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. They said his eyes were red and his speech slurred.

Simms, who spent last season with the Denver Broncos, was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan criminal court. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Simms is the son of CBS Sports analyst Phil Simms, who led the New York Giants to a 39-20 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XXI.
