Sparks President Kristin Bernert resigns

The Sparks said in a news release Tuesday that the team’s president, Kristin Bernert, has resigned to ‘pursue other opportunities.’

Bernert joined the Sparks in 2008 after spending three years serving as the WNBA vice president of business development.

The Sparks have opened this season with a record of 1-6, the worst in franchise history. The team plays the Phoenix Mercury, the defending league champion, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Staples Center.

The Sparks said they are searching for a replacement for Bernert.
