College baseball: UCLA defeats Kent State, 15-1, in regional opener

UCLA, hosting an NCAA baseball regional for the first time since 1986, got off to a solid start Friday night by routing Ken State, 15-1.

The Bruins (44-13) advanced to a winner’s bracket game against defending national champion Louisiana State, an 11-10 winner in 11 innings Friday over UC Irvine.

UCLA starter Gerrit Cole (10-2) gave up one hit and struck out seven in five innings.

The Bruins were ahead, 12-0, after five innings.They finished with 15 hits.
