Fan ejected at Angels-Yankees game leaves with proof of usher’s foul gesture

On Saturday a self-described Yankees fan was at Angel Stadium for the the second game of the three-game series. By the eighth inning, Jim Galgano was ejected and led out of the park by security. In the meantime, he made sure that by Sunday word would be about what happened to him after a member of Galgano’s party -- Jose Gonzalez -- caught on camera a stadium usher flashing him a foul gesture.

Gonzalez has been quoted as saying all he did to get this response from the usher was to have asked why Galgano was being ejected.

‘We were aware of it,’ Tim Mead, the Angels’ vice president of communications, said of the incident. ‘The usher involved made his supervisor aware of it after the game on Sunday. He was put under investigatory suspension Sunday. The incident happened Saturday afternoon. It happened after the removal of a fan.’

Asked whether the Angels spoke to the fan involved, Mead said, ‘No need to interview the fan involved, we saw it on the news. We spoke to the security personnel that escorted the fan from the stadium.

‘The fan was involved in some inappropriate behavior,’ Mead said without elaborating. ‘We spoke to the usher who is in the picture, and his supervisor, and even had a fan call today who was in the area and reported what was seen, as well.

‘We do not condone responses like that, regardless of the situation,’ Mead said. ‘The policies and procedures we have in place for fans to let our ushers know about issues, and subsequent followup by security people, all that was handled as policy dictates on Saturday.’
