Vania King, the 21-year-old from Long Beach who is one of only four American women left in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open, is up 7-5, 2-3 Friday over second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, the 19-year-old from Denmark who made it to the finals of the U.S. Open last September. Wozniacki came here wearing a brand-new Rolex watch, thanks to her new sponsor, and the sense her game was improving. ‘I’m hitting all my shots well,’ Wozniacki has said Wednesday. ‘I am looking forward to this.’

King, who has often sung the National Anthem before tennis matches and even at a Dodgers game, beat Christina McHale in the first round while Wozniacki had a bye.
