So much of the buzz today at Calgary’s Pengrowth Saddledome has been about the Canadian Olympic hockey team selection that tonight’s game between the Kings and Flames has been almost an afterthought.

But it’s a big game for both teams, who start the game tied in points at 47 but with the Flames ranked sixth in the West and the Kings ranked seventh.

Because this is the first of two games on back-to-back nights, Erik Ersberg will start in goal for the Kings tonight, allowing Jonathan Quick to get a game off before facing the Wild on Thursday at St. Paul, Minn. Ersberg hasn’t started since Dec. 9, a 4-3 win at San Jose, and before that hadn’t played since Nov. 13 at Atlanta.

The Kings have lost three straight and four of their last five overall. They’ve also lost eight straight games in Calgary, having last won here on Dec. 21, 2005.

Center Jarret Stoll (groin) won’t play tonight or Thursday, but Coach Terry Murray said he expects Stoll to return against Washington at Staples Center on Saturday.
