Trial date set May 24 in Dodgers’ divorce case

The trial to determine who owns the Dodgers is set to start May 24, Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon ruled this morning.

Frank McCourt’s lawyers asked that the trial start in February, in the hope of resolving the matter before Opening Day. Jamie McCourt’s lawyers asked that the trial start next fall.

At issue is the validity of a 2004 agreement that provides Frank McCourt with sole ownership of the Dodgers and Jamie McCourt with sole ownership of the couple’s residential properties.

Frank McCourt’s lawyers argued that issue can be resolved quickly, since the fundamental issue simply involves whether Jamie McCourt understood the document she signed and what its impact would be. Jamie McCourt’s lawyers argued that the other side has not provided all the documents needed to prepare for trial and that there is no reason to rush the trial to conform to the baseball schedule.
