On Monday Vicente Padilla was released by the Texas Rangers. He cleared waivers and today he is a Dodger. He still must pass a physical, but it looks all set for him to pitch one triple-A game on Saturday before he joins the team.

Texas is responsible for the remainder of Padilla’s $12-million salary as well as the $1.75-million option on his buyout for next season, leaving the Dodgers to pay only a prorated portion of the major league minimum, which comes to about $100,000.

Padilla, 31, was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts for the Rangers. Stay tuned to latimes.com/sports for all the details and to the Dodger Thoughts blog to get Jon Weisman’s take.
