Nick Joanides wins NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship

Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills, a driver in the NASCAR Super Late Model division at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, wrapped up the NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship by winning a pair of races at the track on Saturday night.

Joanides, the leader in the Super Late Model standings at Irwindale, won his 13th and 14th Super Late Model races of the season. He is also the leader in the Late Model standings at the track.

Joanides is in the hunt for the NASCAR Whelen All-American National Championship. Two drivers from Irwindale have won the NASCAR short track national championship. Rip Michels of San Fernando, a four-time track champion at Irwindale, won the national championship in 2003. Greg Pursley, a driver in the NASCAR Camping World Series West, won the national championship in 2004.
