Flavia Pennetta wins L.A. Women’s Tennis Championship

Flavia Pennetta defeated Samantha Stosur, 6-4, 6-3, on this afternoon to win the L.A. Women’s Tennis Championship at Home Depot Center.

‘I don’t know what to say,’ Pennetta, who was the tournament runner-up last year, said. ‘I never won a tournament like this one ... so I’m really happy.’

Pennetta, 27, lost to Dinara Safina in the final last year. Her singles record this year improves to 38-16.

Stosur, 25, never won a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title. She made it to the tournament final for the fifth time after defeating Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

‘Just really enjoyed playing here and really pleased to make it to the final,’ Stosur said.
