The Dodgers are in pursuit of Vicente Padilla, who is expected to clear waivers this afternoon and become a free agent.

The uncertain status of Hiroki Kuroda is what steered the Dodgers toward Padilla, who was let go by the Texas Rangers this week and could be signed for a prorated share of the major-league minimum salary of $400,000. Padilla was 8-6 with a 4.92 earned-run average in 18 starts.
The temperamental right-hander was described by former teammates in Texas as a bad clubhouse influence.

‘About time,’ Rangers outfielder Marlon Byrd told the Dallas Morning News when learning of Padilla’s release. ‘It’s absolutely a positive for this team. We have to get rid of the negatives to make a positive and I believe this is a huge positive for this team.’
