Must have been something in the water.

Pete Carroll and Chad Kreuter both attended Redwood High in Larkspur (Marin) before moving on to become head coaches at USC.

While Carroll is famous for football and Kreuter’s career is built on baseball, they both shared a triple threat legacy as varsity athletes. The represented the Giants in football, baseball, and basketball. If Tim Floyd had left for Arizona, maybe Mike Garrett would have been thumbing from some old copies of the Redwood Log (the school’s yearbook) for another multi-sport athlete to be his replacement.

Carroll and Kreuter will be inducted into the charter class of the Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame later this month.

Kreuter played baseball at Redwood for three years (1980-82), making the All Marin Country Athletic League team each season. He was named a Northern California All-Star and California All-Star his senior year. He was All-MCAL and All-CIF in football in 1981 and 1982, and All-MCAL in basketball in 1982.

Enjoy these photos of Kreuter ... and keep your eyes peeled for some classic photos of Carroll later in the week.
