L.A. Sparks forward Candace Parker said Saturday that ‘everything feels great’ regarding her pregnancy and that ‘it’s coming along.’ Parker, 22, said she’s expecting the birth of her first child in May. She’s married to Minnesota Timberwolves forward/center Shelden Williams.

Parker spoke briefly with The Times during a Sparks community event Saturday with the March of Dimes, the nonprofit organization working to help prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

‘It’s an event that affects me personally,’ Parker said of the March for Babies Walk. ‘When I read up on it and researched it, I saw what March of Dimes does. They help mothers have healthy pregnancies as well as babies that were born prematurely. I think the research is for a good cause, so I wanted to come.’

It’s been well documented that Parker’s presence, as well as her talent, ‘could be the next big thing’ for the WNBA. Her appearance at the March of Dimes event served as one example of her ambassador role. She wasn’t sure, however, what her future appearances at Sparks events would entail given the eventful months ahead.

‘With my due date approaching fast,’ Parker said, ‘I think this will be one of the last events I’ll be able to attend.’
