The Kings have an 8.1% chance of getting the first overall pick in the June entry draft, according to the odds established by the NHL for the annual draft lottery drawing.

The Kings finished with the fifth-worst record in the league, and only the five teams with the lowest regular-season point total (or teams that acquired an eligible club’s first-round pick) can get the first overall pick. They almost blew it by winning Saturday and having only the sixth-worst record, but they got a reprieve when Phoenix won and stayed ahead of them.

The drawing will take place at 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday at the league’s New York headquarters. Versus will televise the event, which will also be streamed live on nhl.com and rebroadcast at 6 p.m. Pacific Time on the NHL Network. No one can move down more than one position as a result of the drawing, and no one can move up more than four positions in the draft order.

The percentage chance of being selected in the draft drawing:

  • New York Islanders 25%
  • Tampa Bay 18.8%
  • Colorado 14.2%
  • Atlanta 10.7%
  • Kings 8.1%
  • Phoenix 6.2%
  • Toronto 4.7%
  • Dallas 3.6%
  • Ottawa 2.7%
  • Edmonton 2.1%
  • Nashville 1.5%
  • Minnesota 1.1%
  • Buffalo 0.8%
  • Florida 0.5%
