TEMPE, Ariz.--Not a good exhibition debut today for Angels right-hander Jered Weaver, who gave up one run and four hits and walked a batter in 2/3 of an inning against the Cleveland Indians.

Weaver, slowed this spring by a sore shoulder, survived a major scare when Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner hit a vicious line drive up the middle, right past Weaver’s head.

But Weaver couldn’t finish the first inning, in which he threw 26 pitches, and he would have suffered even more damage had he not picked off Jamey Carroll at first base after Carroll opened the game with a single.
