PHOENIX -- Jason Schmidt, who has spent the last 1 1/2 years on the disabled list, tossed a scoreless inning today in the Dodgers’ intra-squad game.

He threw 11 pitches: three to Juan Pierre, who grounded out to first; three to Mark Loretta, who flied out to center; one to Casey Blake, who singled on a hard-liner that was knocked down by third baseman Luis Maza; and four to Matt Kemp, who grounded out to short.

Schmidt said he was encouraged by the outing.

How good was his stuff?

‘He got me out, so his stuff was real good,’ Pierre said, laughing.
