Pat Summitt is being congratulated by everyone from Phil Jackson to Pat Riley for Thursday night’s women’s college basketball victory. The Lady Vols’ 74-73 win over Georgia gave the Tennessee coach her 1,000th win.

Here’s what Jackson, the Lakers’ coach who earlier this year logged his 1,000th win, told Associated Press about Summit’s most-recent accomplishment:

She’s a very demanding coach, a very good fundamental coach. It’s a great story about her success. She’s done a great job of rebuilding that program several times to a championship level.’

And here’s what Miami Heat President Riley, who won 1,210 NBA games, had to say:

She’s respected by all her peers, both men and women, as being just an extremely great coach and probably one of the greatest coaches of all time, men or women.’

Summitt is in her 35th season as head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer basketball team. Her teams have won eight NCAA national championships. Even before the 1,000th victory Summitt was the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball (male and female) history.
